The Girl with the Nose Ring

I arrived at an out of town bar at about 1:00 am and rolled the windows down to wait for the rider(s). She approach the drivers side from the rear and said “For xxxxx?” I was surprised by a pretty smiling blond. She and her pretty brunette friend got in the back who asked if we could make a stop on the way. No problem. They discussed what they wanted to do next, the brunette wanting to go home because she had to be up early in the morning and blond wanting her to stay out to find a guy friend.

The brunette insisted on going home so I dropped her off a short distance away. Then I headed to the blond’s destination, a bar some some 20 minutes away which turned out to be near home. Woohoo I get paid for the return trip.. We enjoyed a conversation even though she was pretty drunk and I had to sometimes ask her to repeat what she said. She needed to get back to her car. Hmm, danger there. I perhaps should have asked if I could take her straight home but I doubt she would have agreed. I’m a car nut so I asked her what kind of car she had. A Chevy Cruze. She hated it but used to love it before her ex-boy friend pulled the hand brake while she was driving causing a crash. The car was repaired but has never been the same. She still loves him and after several slurred attempts she recited his phone number as if to prove it I guess.I dropped her off in front of the bar and she walked a short distance away and stop to apparently use her phone. As I drove away I couldn’t help but feel some concern for her. Oh well, what bad could happen to a pretty girl late at night standing alone on the sidewalk in the “Happiest town in America”?

Why I’m Doing This

Everyone loves a good story. I’d like to share a few of my experiences as a ride-share driver that are memorable. All are true to the best of my recollection minus names or other identifying information to protect everyone’s privacy. Riding in the car with passengers is a great opportunity to meet a diverse range of people (and make some money) in a uniquely private setting. Most are good experiences, a few not so much. I enjoy sharing them. I hope you enjoy reading about them.

I’m a 65+ year old man and drive in and round San Luis Obispo, a smallish and scenic city on the central coast of California, a college town and tourist destination, and a good place to drive. I drive mostly at night. Less traffic and on average more riders. Of course the later it gets the weirder it can get.
